Albany is a municipality under the Mayor-Board of Alderman government and is governed by the “Lawrason Act”, with an elected Chief of Police. The town was incorporated in 1953, with the first mayor being Grady Stewart. Railroad (B.R.H. & E) established Albany in 1907-08 at the crossroads of north-south Turnpike Road from Springfield to Natchez, MS on a portion of Spanish Headright granted to Nancy Settoon in 1801.
The Town of Albany would like to say thank you to Weyerhaeuser for the wonderful grant to purchase equipment for toddlers for our Albany Community Park.
